https://univ-bejaia.dz/ajnp/index.php/ajnp/article/view/220
In this work, we evaluate the effect of incorporating fennel essential oil into alginate-based edible films on the quality of fresh-cut apples. The results showed that the addition of fennel essential oil significantly improved the quality of the fresh-cut apples. The incorporation of 2% fennel essential oil resulted in a significant decrease in the total microbial count. The color of the fresh-cut apples was also maintained after 7 days of storage, indicating that the fennel essential oil-incorporated alginate films effectively protected the fruits from oxidation and discoloration. Thafath AlilatChiraz BelhamelKamel Belhamel

https://univ-bejaia.dz/ajnp/index.php/ajnp/article/view/222

The present study contributes to the knowledge and conservation of medicinal plants and drug recipes used in childs’ care. A total of 652 traditional healers were interviewed individually and in groups using local languages. Descriptive statistics were performed on the collected data and Hierarchical Cluster and Correspondence Analysis were used to show the relation between the surveyed populations and plant species used. A total of 70 medicinal plant species from 35 families were identified and used to treat 16 diseases and symptoms in Childs’ care. Malaria, fevers, infections, bellyaches, wound and dentition were the most important childhood ailments treated. Traditional religions and Fon sociocultural group women are the best users. The main reasons of the use of medicinal plants were related to the well-being, easy access, acquired knowledge and efficacy of the plant products. Home gardens plants and their sustainable use were the main conservation mode suggested by local peoples.
Gbodja Houéhanou François GBESSO

https://univ-bejaia.dz/ajnp/index.php/ajnp/article/view/219

Diarrhoea is the second cause of death associated with children below five years. This study investigated the chemical profile, toxicity and antidiarrhoeal property of ethanol extract of Afzelia africana seed. Chemical profiling was established via GC-MS. Acute toxicity was evaluated using standard protocol and antidiarrhoeal assay was carried out on graded doses (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg) of extract. GC-MS revealed the presence of 2,5-octadecadienoic acid (27.41%), oleic acid (6.34%) and phytol (6.23%) amongst others. Absence of mortality with no adverse effect was recorded at ? 5000 mg/kg. The castor oil induced diarrhoea model showed that the extract significantly delayed onset of diarrhoea, decreased frequency of defecation and weight of stool (p < 0.05). Similarly, a significant decrease in the length travel by charcoal meal was observed across the treated groups (p < 0.05). Thus, this study validated the folklore benefits of A. africana seeds as a potent antidiarrhoeal agent.
Gloria Ihuoma NdukweBenjamin Ogunma GabrielJoseph Ohiolei OkhikuFaithwin Gamaliel Obomanu
