With a diverse academic background and extensive research expertise, Prof. Imad AL KASSAA holds a Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Sciences, a Master's degree in Medical Microbiology, and a PhD in Engineering of Biological Functions with a focus on Lactic Acid Bacteria, probiotics, gut microbiota and related health benefits. Currently, he holds the position of Senior Scientist at the Fonterra Research and Development Center Palmerston North (New Zealand), where he’s engaged in diverse innovative projects focusing on biotics and their health-related applications. In addition, he serves as an adjunct full Professor at the Lebanese University (Lebanon), where he played a pivotal role as a Principal Researcher at the LMSE “Laboratoire de Microbiologie Santé et Environnement”. Moreover, he held the position of Assistant Professor at Lorraine University, France. Over the past 12 years, his research has centered on Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and their bioactive metabolites, alongside exploring the applications of probiotics and postbiotics as antiviral agents, immunomodulators, and related gut axis benefits. Furthermore, he has delved into their function as modulators of gut microbiota and promoters of brain health. His contributions extend beyond academia, as he has authored a book titled "New Insights on Antiviral Probiotics: From Research to Application," along with a book chapter, two reviews, and two editorial articles. Additionally, he has published 25 original research articles and developed the LABiocin database.
