Language interference has long been considered as a challenging domain in the field of learning English as a foreign language. The present work attempts to explain the influence of the French language on the writing skill at the spelling level, taking first years LMD students at the University of Bejaia. In order to explore the field, a mixed research method was adopted through one research instrument which is a survey. The findings confirm that the French language influence leads EFL 1st year learners to spelling errors which cause most of the time to misunderstandings and poor English language mastery.en_US
