Abstract: In this thesis work, three alumina-based powders were synthesized by the sol-gel method using aluminum nitrate, manganese nitrate, and cobalt nitrate as precursors, citric acid as a complexing agent, and ethanol as a solvent. After thermal treatment and magnetic stirring, part of the gels underwent simultaneous DTA/TGA analysis, while the remainder was calcined at various temperatures to obtain the final powders. The resulting materials were characterized using FTIR, UV.visible, and photoluminescence spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and microstructural morphology analysis. The analysis results highlights a single ƒ¿-Al.O. phase for pure alumina (crystallite size ~42 nm). Cobaltdoped alumina showed two distinct phases, Co.O. and Co.AlO., with an average crystallite size of 48 nm, while manganese-doped alumina exhibited a multiphase structure (Mn.O., ƒ¿-Al.O., and ƒÁ- Al.O.) with the smallest crystallite size of 24 nm.
