It has degenerative origin in roughly 95% of the cases. Strainous lifestyles and and an active aging population are at the forefront of the theorized origin.
In order to evaluate the experience of the department of neurosurgery in Khalil Amrane- Bejaia university hospital center.
we report a retrospective study regarding a series of 30 cases of lumbar spinal stenosis that were treated at this department during a period of 4 months from September 1st to December 31rd 2023.
The median age of patients is 51.7 years old, the sex ratio is 1,19 with a slight predominance of female and the clinical symptomatology is dominated by the radicular pain of the lower limbs and intermittent neurogenic claudication found 60% of the cases and 7 patients or 23.3% were admitted at the stage of cauda equine syndrome.
On the therapeutic, decompressive laminectomy was performed in all our patients completed by foraminotomy in 16 % of the cases. This procedure was associated with discectomy in 67% of the cases.
Generally, the evolution was marked by improvement of the symptomatology This shows the benefit of decompression surgery by laminectomy in the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. - 1 vol.
