Abstract

Important epistemological debates and discussions took place between French philosopher Paul Ricoeur's (1913 – 2005) interpretativeness and the narrative semiotics of French semiotician of Lithuanian origin, A. G. Greimas (1917 – 1992). They were raised by Ricoeur's open tendency to the knowledge and theories of his time, and they were nourished by intellectual readiness for dialogue and interaction that are free of negation and exclusion logic. These debates and discussions were also fueled by scientific debate spirit which bestowed on European climate a generous provision of rich discussions. The latter achieved their intersections upon a new epistemological margin, that alone formed a significant tributary for study and discussion. This presentation aims to approach Ricoeur's proposal, which seeks to include Greimas' semiotic narrative within the general field of hermeneutics, by presenting its device through the mechanism of the historical functional narrative that unmasks the unrevealed interpretative comprehension embodied in the logical and rationalized interpretation of the adopted narrative text adopted in this semiotics, thus undermining the claims of dissonance of interpretation and understanding and confirming their intertwining
