Abstract

The press discours has indeed now become widespread due to contemporary life, which has become more attracted to the media. The expansion of the latter has increased because of the large number of news published, its acceleration and its impact on man’s future. As a result, writers have become involved in the field of media after readers have recently retracted their interest in literary activity in view of the dominance of media discourse on the global cultural scene. In fact, this reminds us of the spirit of the European Renaissance when literary journalists demonstrated their aspirations to become fiction writers. Moreover, the stories of the criminals and the confessions that were published in the newspapers at the time and the autobiographical stories were an inspirational material for the novel. This connection appeared strongly in the Arab society in the modern era, with the efforts made by the press to correct and renew the Arab and Islamic society in an attempt to revive the awakening and the renewal of the nation. Based on the aforementioned information, we will try to investigate the link between journalism and literature through the contemporary Algerian novel, at the textual level in particular in Alone at Night by Bashir Mufti and Lakhdar by Yasmina Saleh. The aim is to examine the effects of journalism as a media work primarily on the narrative text, and the influence of its characteristics on this discourse based on the journalist's writer's profession. Examples of such influence include: the novelist's preoccupation with contemporary daily realistic events prompted by the idea of investigation to know the truth and know the details of matters making his style closer to the simple declarative style that cares about both the event and the image; the use of terms circulating in the press discourse in the novel such as the word gang and conversation and other words that refer to violence; and the novelist's tendency towards one of the features that are often respected in journalistic discourse such as clarity to ensure understanding
