Character and reality in Lhabib Essaih´s novel Zamane Ennumrud

Abstract

This paper aims to reveal the extent to which Algerian novelists are able to use novel writing techniques to express their visions about the different events happening around them. In this context, Lahbib Essaiah can be considered as a pioneer, because he dared to strip reality and succeeded in that, due to the manner he presents his characters and assigns them their roles to depict the conditions that Algeria went through at the end of the seventies and the beginning of eighties of the twentieth century. The importance of this studies lies in demonstrating how Lahbib Essaiah selected and presented his main characters, and how he portrayed the clash that occurred between them, in order to tell the reader how did Algeria live that era.
