Abstract

The topics of ancient Algerian Sufi poetry are the same as the topics of Sufi poetry in the Arab world. The Algerian Sufi poet, like others, was affected by the spread of Sufism in Algeria; thus, many mystical poets appeared, and perhaps the most famous of them were born in Tlemcen or have lived there. Some of the most famous Sufi poest include: Abu Madian Shuaib - Sheikh Mashayikh, Afif Al-Din Al-Tlemcani, Sidi Lakhdar Bin Khalouf and many others. Sufi poetry was born to express a deep emotional experience. The study of the topics of ancient Algerian poetry has led to the disclosure of the artistic features represented mainly in the symbolism of the Sufi language, and this was shown in the topics they have dealt with. These revolved mainly around divine love prophetic praise, wine, elegies and nostalgia.
