Abstract

While some scholars consider them as related terms, that is to say, used without any difference, others consider them separated terms that are used to identify different meanings and to set point on distinct significations. Accordingly, the discourse is oriented and directed to a listener (who is an active receiver), whereas the text is oriented and directed to a reader (who is a passive receiver). This methodic melding between the above-mentioned terms led to the misuse especially in researches with Arabic. Therefore, this paper of research will shed light on the common and different points between ‘’text’’ and ‘’discourse’’ as well as to set the conceptional limits of their definitions
