Abstract

The Soummam Congress was the result of a process whose origins date back to November 1st, 1954.A first assessment or report should have been done six months after the outbreak of hostilities. The conditions didn't allow it. Moreover, it was only in August 1956, after a hard preparatory work led principally by Abane Ramdane, that the ground works of the 1st FLN Congress opened and equipped the Revolution with its legitimate institutions and provided them with organization and ideological texts.

This meeting was also an opportunity for the responsible of the zones to clarify and enlighten the actions led against the enemy. Abane Ramdane, in his speech, criticized some actions related to the events of August 20th 1955 or the Sakamody Operation.

The author stood up against the falsifiers of the history who, more than 60 years after August 20th, 1956, present a new story of the event. These gravediggers serve only their interests at the expense of the historical truth and collective memory of the algerian people.

Key words: Abane Ramdane, Soummam Congress, Offensive of August 20th, 1955.
