Pedagogical laboratories of Hall of technology

1- Laboratory of resistance materials

This laboratory is equipped of eight test stand facilities (bending, torsion, fatigue, resilience, traction, stain gauge, hardness and photoelastic analysis) and a test stand facility of traction controlled by a computer.

This laboratory allows the students to determine the mechanical properties of metals and alloys, effect of geometric faults on the resistance of metals fatigue, measure stains with photoelastic analysis and determine principal directions of stains ; measure deformation by Wheatstone bridge.

Case study :

- Beams
- Springs

2- Laboratory of metallography and heat treatment

This laboratory is equipped of three muffle furnaces of 1200° maximal temperature, a chainsaw for cutting samples, polisher, an ultrasonic cleaning tank, a hardness machine Vickers/Rockwell and five optical microscopes.

This laboratory allows students in mechanical engineering to make practical works in order to:

- Recognize the components existing in steels of mechanical construction, fonts and light alloys.
- Study the transformation of these components under the influence of heat treatment cycles in correlation with diagram TTT (isothermal transformation) and diagram TRC (Transformations in continuous cooling)
- understand the correlation microstructures – mechanical properties of metallic materials.

3- Laboratory of metrology

This laboratory is directed to complete the training of students in term of dimensional analysis of mechanical parts. The metrology is an integral part of mechanical manufacture; it is about the control of all mechanical parts (measure dimensions, flatness, roughness, profiles…). The laboratory has all necessary equipments for all measures with different accuracy calculations (up to 1/1000 mm).

4- Laboratory of internal combustion engines:

This laboratory (internal combustion engines) has pedagogical equipment for the practical accompaniment of teaching on thermal engines.

We have equipment that allows a better assimilation of theoretical courses studied about internal combustion engines. The laboratory is composed of:

- A test stand equipped with two engines (air-cooled single cylinder), one of them functions with petrol and the other with diesel. It allows identifying the main characteristics of these engines, such as curves, power and specific consumption.
- A Fiat engine 131 (for assembly and dismantling), to help students to familiarize themselves with the technology of these engines.

5- Laboratory of computer- assisted design and manufacturing (CFAO)

We have a laboratory composed of:

- A computer room for using computer- assisted design and manufacturing software.

- A manufacturing room equipped of two numerically controlled machine tools (a turn and milling machine)

The activities of these rooms are as follows:

- 3D geometric modeling
- design of mechanical components and assemblies
- Simulation of mechanical behaviors
- Analyses of structures
- Simulation for manufacturing
- Management of technical data
- Tools of cooperation and cooperative engineering
