Transportation networks, urbanization and economic development of Grand North Kivu: Current situation and historical perspective

This article aims to analyze the impact of transport infrastructure on the location of urban-rural agglomerations and on economic development. A transportation network measurement approach and a historical approach were used. Then, 91% of the agglomerations studied are located along the national road on a tree-like form. The cities of Beni and Butembo have good accessibility and are therefore the main commercial and industrial centers of Greater North Kivu. The road and air network have played an important role in the urbanization of the Greater North Kivu region
