CONTRIBUTION TO THE EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ENVIRONMENTAL TAXES: CASE OF THE COASTAL AREA OF THE WILAYA OF BEJAIA
Keywords:
Environmental policies, environmental taxes, coastline, sustainable management, province of BéjaiaAbstract
Coastal areas, rich in biodiversity and natural resources, are experiencing unprecedented and increasing pressures due to human activities that are weakening their ecosystems. This anthropogenic pressure threatens to jeopardize an entire ecosystem on which the balance between economic objectives and ecological constraints depends. This calls for a reconciliation of economic development and the sustainable management of natural resources and the coastal environment. It is in this context that this contribution is presented, highlighting the role that environmental taxes could play as an instrument of environmental policies in changing and guiding the behavior of stakeholders, particularly industrial companies, toward balanced and sustainable development. Our focus is on the case of the coastline of the province of Béjaia.
