ATTRACTION AND RETENTION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS BY ALGERIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

The stock of international students in Algeria is low. Our question refers to how to attract foreign students to study in Algeria? A literature review, 8 exploratory interviews with foreign students, and a manual thematic analysis were carried out. Four main findings are as follows: (i) The causes of enrollment are among others the characteristics of the host country, the region and the image of the study conditions; (ii) The factors of retention are among others related to the knowledge of people who have lived the desired experience; (iii) Among the recurring problems are aggression, language problems, low quality of services and (iv) The image of universities is good and can be conveyed by scholarship grants and the informations published on internet.
