DETERMINANTS OF TRADE DEFICITS IN THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR IN ALGERIA: ANALYSIS BY PANEL DATA.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to determine the real causes which are at the origin of the external deficits of the non-hydrocarbon industrial sector during the period from 1989 to 2018. To do this, we referred to the econometric analysis of the panel data. At the end of this study, we were able to show that the external deficits of the various sectors of the manufacturing industry are essentially due to the mode of accumulation, based on oil rent and not favoring the transfer of technologie, to the trade openness experienced by the country and the deterioration in the quality of political and economic institutions.
