Abstract

This paper analyzes the factors behind wage disparities between men and women through the
model of Blinder and Oaxaca (1973). The results showed that there is a pay gap of 6.50% in
the formal private sector; 6.32% in the informal private sector and 3.80% in the public sector.
In the private sector (formal and informal), almost all wage disparities between men and
women (94%) areexplained by discrimination against women. In the public sector, almost
one-third of the wage gap is correlated with differences in individual characteristics that are
more favorable to men.
