Abstract

This paper is a reflection on the conduct of monetary policy in Algeria since the promulgation of the
law on money and credit in April 1990. It is an attempt to evaluate this policy according to the
commitments announced by the Bank of Algeria and what the theoretical and empirical literature teach
us. We conclude that there is a deficit in communication in the ex-ante inflation targets. For the base
currency as an intermediate objective, the majority of tests conclude that it is stable
