dc.description.abstract The present study is an effort to apply the Postcolonialist theory of Cultural Hegemony, tackling the contemporary author Angie Thomas novel The Hate U Give as a case-study. It aims at analyzing the racial discrimination black people encounter in post-slavery American society, as well as identifying the aspects of hegemony to which they are subjugated. It introduces the reader to the theory of Cultural Hegemony as defined by Antonio Gramsci, and explains how Racial discrimination and state institutions are used as hegemonic tools to dominate minorities, in this particular case, the African American community en_US
