Witness of war The castaway of the Soummam

Abstract

In August 1961, Tahar Beliamini was assigned as head of region I of zone II of wilaya III. The maquisard Ikhefoulma Ahcen from Toudja, accompanies his new leader with Ahmed Kadri, Idir Lota, and Mokhtar. Their journey is fraught with pitfalls. After passing through the Ighil Oumssed refuge, the group headed for Ait Mellikeche. But on approaching the village of Selloum, it is ambushed. Tahar Beliamini is mortally wounded while Ikhefoulma is injured. Finding himself alone at the shelter, he decides to go out and ask for support. He goes from one house to another, sometimes receiving help from ‘moussebiline’ or civilians as is the case with Na Ouba who lives in an isolated house in the vicinity of M'Cheddellah and who saved his life.  Miraculously, he emerged safe from this adventure and continued his fight until independence.
