The contribution of Algerian emigration to France in the financing of Wilaya III
Abstract
The triumph of the Algerian liberation war is due to its internal and external structuring. No revolution can last over time without funding. At the beginning, the funds were restricted, and the national liberation front fund did not cover all expenses. On the eve of the revolution, Krim Belkacem, the first chief of Zone III, directly appealed to the wealthy of the region and recovered sums of money from the Messalist movement. The financial situation remained so until the creation of the coordination and execution committee (CCE) and the appointment of Omar Boudaoud in 1957, as representative of the federation of France of FLN (FF.FLN). The latter, since its creation in 1955, was meant to succeed in controlling emigration and financing FLN coffers. Algerian emigrants, particularly those in France, were a second fund for the National Liberation Front leaders. Millions of old French francs were collected in the various metropolitan territories and then transferred to Algeria. Spending in Wilaya III during this period experienced remarkable growth until independence.
Key words: Algerian revolution, Wilaya III, Algerian emigration, FLN Federation of France, funds.
